Smoking habit is not healthy, but many people claim hard to stop. Apparently, doctors have an answer. Doctors assume that the psychoactive effects of nicotine is a very strong, it is hard to make the smokers stop their habit of smoking cigarettes. Psychoactive effects of nicotine caused 50-10 times more powerful than cocaine and morphine.
The receptors in the brain receive nicotine that releases dopamine which provides temporary comfort. To lose this sensation of comfort when quit smoking causes the desire to smoke again. This desire increases bigger and bigger than before.
Other factor is that people can get cigarettes easily. People who quit smoking will experience symptoms of addiction, such as insomnia or sleep disturbance, frustration and anger, anxiety, difficulty concentrating and depression. Appetite is usually also be increased, this makes some people back to smoking for fear of weight increase after quitting smoking.
Such difficulties and a lack of knowledge about how to stop smoking nicotine addiction, made most smokers fail to stop smoking. The fact is as many as 70 percent of smokers want to stop their habit of smoking cigarettes, but only 50-10 percent of which managed to do it without help.
The addiction could be overcome by making use of several therapies, including therapies such as medication, behavior therapy and the application of psychological approaches. Now, there are drugs that work to help overcome the problems that arise when a person stops smoking.
In addition to medication therapy, motivation, determination and strong commitment from the smoker may be the initial capital to stop smoking. The support of family and friends is very important in this case. Family support, among others, can be expressed with respect to the patient’s decision to quit smoking.
