At the Peak of Your Career, but Have No Friends …

Every time you log into a new phase in life, all kinds of changes will occur. It happens in a career, too. Once you ride the position, do not expect everything will be the same. Changes in responsibility, that’s for sure. But, the thing that a lot of people are not ready to deal with is the change in friendship relationships with coworkers. Many people complain, the higher the position is, and the fewer friends they have. So he often felt abandoned and alone.

You’re not fun anymore?
You were used to be most excited when you were asked to gossip. In fact, maybe you were the source of the gossip. From superior’s breakup that caused him angry all the time without any reasons, until “the forbidden relationship” between a colleague and a boss who’s married and has two children, you could respond to those all excited.

But now, it’s not possible anymore. Gossiping with subordinates? “Where is my dignity?” Maybe that is what you have in your mind. Restrictions are also drawn by your peers. Not because they are unfriendly to you, but more because of bad feeling because they felt that they are no longer equal with you, moreover if you are the boss now. Well, the more reluctant they become to invite you.

In addition, they may also think that you are no longer “loyal” to the friendship because of your authorization to access a wider and more open leadership. So what you hear can directly get to the boss’s ear. “Oh, do not invite her, she might tell us to the boss.” Maybe that’s what they have in mind.

More and more workload and responsibility also becomes an obstacle. More and more meetings you have attended, not to mention the lobbying activities that you have to do with those big clients. Your time is too short.

Bottom line, since becoming a boss, you are “not fun” anymore because of so many “limitations” which do not allow you things the same way again. Perhaps you did not intentionally mean to be a person like that, but it’s hard to escape from that condition. In other hand, there are also those people whose attitude changed 180 degrees as soon as they got the promotion. They become bossy and unfriendly because the feel the need to maintain their dignity. Well, if you are like that, then you ARE not fun anymore.
