Lung cancer can be a scary thing. Fortunately there are some simple but effective ways of reducing your potential risks for ever developing it.
Quit smoking: This is the most obvious way to reduce your risk of lung cancer, but yet the first to be ignored. Smoking is a surefire way to develop lung cancer and actually attributes for your biggest risk. If you can kick the habit and quit smoking once and for all, you will dramatically cut down on your potential risks. Your lungs will heal themselves, even after years of consistent smoking. Your blood and oxygen flow will get back to normal, and you will just feel so much better. So if you needed an excuse to quit, let it be that you can dramatically cut down on your potential risk for lung cancer by kicking the smoking habit once and for all.
Stay away from second hand smoke: Even if you don’t smoke, you may be putting yourself at risk for lung cancer. By breathing in second hand smoke, your lungs are still getting exposed to the same harmful substances. Though this may not happen after an isolated occurrence, it can build up over time. If you happen to be exposed to enough smoke throughout your life, it can create a big risk for you over time. So if you work in a smoky environment or live with somebody who smokes, find a way to eliminate your exposure to second hand smoke once and for all.
Get your daily dose of antioxidants: Though we all know that healthy eating is important in the prevention of all types of cancer, it can be particularly important when it comes to lung cancer. When you get your daily dose of fresh fruits and vegetables, not only are you eating well but you are consuming some very important antioxidants. This is good for you in a variety of ways, but most especially as it relates to preventing lung cancer. This is a huge benefit and well worth considering increasing your intake of those delicious fruits and veggies.
Be mindful and careful of what you are breathing in: Have you had your home tested for radon? If not, then you really should as it can pose the potential threat of lung cancer down the line. You also have to be careful of any other potentially danger pollutants or carcinogens that you may be breathing in at work or at home. Our environment is riddled with a variety of pollutants, and none of that is good for you or your ability to ward off lung cancer. So be mindful of what you are breathing in and do your best to avoid any harmful substances at all costs.
Get your exercise whenever possible: Many people look to exercise as a way to simply keep the pounds off. It can also be a helpful tool in fighting off certain types of cancer, namely lung cancer. When you exercise, you increase your lung capacity, get the blood and oxygen flowing, and ensure that vital organs such as the lungs are working properly. Therefore if you want to eliminate your risk for lung cancer altogether, get in exercise as much as possible.
Some measures are easier than others, but they are all effective in preventing lung cancer. You may have to work at some of them, but in the end your body and your overall health will thank you.
